Yes true. I'd be curious what DP requires. I've been slowly proofreading an IA text (PDF I originally scanned and uploaded) and will upload the final draft here first, but will also see if DP will take it, but haven't gotten that far yet. I'm creating it in LaTeX so it looks beautiful, like a professional book, including some original but few footnotes and maybe a brief factual intro. The DP would obviously be the plain text ascii version. Using LyX a great free utility for this sort of thing.

Actually DP has gotten much more sophisticated in their post-processing recently and now generate HTML editions with embedded images as a matter of course.

For your project, you might want to consider looking into contributing your scans at the front of their pipeline. The project admin (you) gets to determine, proofing guidelines (original spelling vs modernized, etc), transcription conventions and all kinds of other stuff. You'll get multi-pass proofread text out the backend which you can then post-process as you see fit. They're set up to deal with footnotes and all kinds of other arcane stuff.
